Gear Up for Golf Season

At Sunday River Golf Club

We all know the sad feeling of packing away the skis or snowboards for the season. Instead of wallowing this year, how about you use this time as a reason to get pumped for the upcoming golf season? Here’s some our tips and tricks for opening day at the Sunday River Golf Club.

Get Golf Season Fit

If you’ve been skiing all season, your legs are probably strong and steady at this point in the year. Golf requires strong legs and hips, but also core and upper body strength. Cardio health is important, but strength training, such as lifting weights, will make a big difference for your golf game. Make sure to focus on full-body strength, but definitely work your core and upper body if they’ve been neglected the last few months. Never weight lifted before? Reach out to your local gym and ask about personal training; they may have a golf-specific program available!

Listen to the Pros

Though you may be eager to jump back into training, proceed with caution. Here’s what our Pro Jerry Roman had to say when asked about golf season prep: “When prepping for the golf season it’s important to ease into it. The golf muscles have been in hibernation and are more risk of injury than if you are swinging a club frequently. My recommendation is to keep the first couple practice sessions on the driving range short, and spend more time chipping and putting. This will improve feel and give the body time to acclimate itself to making the swinging motion again.”

Book Early

So, you’ve heeded all our advice so far: you’ve trained, you’ve practiced on the driving range. It’s time to book! You’ll save money by booking your tee times in advance, so now is the time to do so. Check out our Stay & Play packages or if you’re itching for more, our Sunday River & Sugarloaf or Sunday River & Belgrade Lakes combination packages.
