NEWRY, ME (December 10, 2023)—The 23rd Annual Santa Sunday celebration kicked off the season of giving at Sunday River Resort today. 300 skiers and snowboarders decked out as Santa dashed down Broadway in the South Ridge base area, and helped raise $8,000 in support of The River Fund Maine, a local non-profit organization.

Each Santa, having pre-registered for the event, contributed a $27 donation and sported the classic attire: a red Santa hat with a white pompom, a matching Santa jacket and pants, and of course, a fluffy Santa beard. For their generosity and holiday spirit, Sunday River provided each Santa with a lift ticket for the day, and an extra lift ticket be used for a future visit before December 24, 2023.

"While this event brings holiday cheer throughout the resort, its deeper significance lies in supporting the children within our community. Each year, the kindness of Santa Sunday participants contributes to creating impactful educational opportunities for our local students,” said Sunday River Resort President Dana Bullen.

All proceeds from Santa Sunday are donated to the River Fund Maine, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to creating a bright economic future for the community by investing in the education of local area youth and harnessing the region's recreational assets. Since its creation in 2018, the River Fund Maine has awarded two college scholarships of $20,000 per year for up to four years.
