Newry, ME (November 27, 2023) – Sunday River Resort announced today that the new Barker 6 chairlift will open on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 9:00AM. Marking a milestone in speed and efficiency, the Barker 6 is set to claim its place among North America's fastest six-person aerial lifts. Matching the caliber of sister resort Big Sky, Sunday River will be the only other resort in North America with two ultra-modern Doppelmayr D-Line lifts. This Doppelmayr design, featured in the chairlift fleet of Loon Resort, Boyne Mountain, The Highlands, and Brighton, underscores a growing design trend across Boyne Resort properties.

Revolutionizing the experience at the heart of the resort, the Barker 6 seamlessly integrates comfort, capacity, and speed. The lift features six ergonomically heated seats enclosed by a signature Sunday River Red bubble. With sixty-three chairs, weighing in at nearly one ton each, guests will be transported up the mountain in just over four and a half minutes.

The Barker 6 stands as the most recent among a series of upgrades completed by Sunday River. Notably, the Jordan 8, unveiled last winter, claims the title of North America's fastest eight-place lift, featuring the iconic Sunday River Red weather-resistant bubble. The momentum continued into summer with substantial snowmaking upgrades in the Jordan Bowl, tripling the snowmaking capacity in the area. Additionally, installation of the second Merrill Hill Triple, a Doppelmayr fixed-grip chairlift, was completed and is set to welcome guests next winter.
